WELCOME TO THE CITY OF LAKES TOURNAMENT

 

On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Harbour City Lakers , it is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the 2026 City of Lakes Tournament.  We are very excited to be hosting a record breaking 120 teams to this year’s event.

During the tournament contact cell numbers for Tournament organizers will be posted on the website. Team staff - Please do not hesitate to reach out with a question or concern between 8am and 10pm. We are here to help!  Volunteers will also be clearly identified at the rink and are available to answer questions. Please note we only accept games questions, comments  and concerns from coaches or team managers in the control room.

All teams must sign-in to the designated tournament control desk no later than 30 minutes prior to their game to verify and sign game sheets. RBC Centre : 2nd floor, CHP Rink Lobby. Car Keys must be provided in exchange for dressing room keys.

Players should be ready to play 15 minutes before scheduled game times.

The schedule is posted on the website under the “schedule” tab. The schedule is now final, and no changes will be made except in the event of weather or obvious errors. We do ask teams check it daily in the event any of these situations occur.

Upon initial sign-in at RBC Centre, a team representative must sign a sheet indicating they have read the  tournament rules and will be given their team manager bag and complimentary team snacks. Bracelets for athlete and team staff access to the hospitality suite, tattoos and other team support items will be provided at this time. Jack Astor's  have provided each team with one voucher for the team kindness award .  This can be awarded at any time during the tournament to the athlete who demonstrates kindness, support for their teammates, and a positive attitude during the tournament. This can be determined by coaching staff or team members. Please send photos of the recipient of the kindness award to us via Facebook with the athletes name, team name and reason the award was given. Dominos Player of the Game items will be collected when you sign your game sheet; the recipient will be determined by team Coach at end of each game. Please tag us in any photos from the tournament on Instagram at #hclcolt2026. Fun1/2 athletes will also receive helmet stickers in their team bags. New this year: Teams should  nominate a True Sport athlete in the tournament on our face book page under the True Sport award posting. include Team name and Manager Name . Prizes will be randomly given to nominees.

It is important that all participants and their families read and understand the tournament rules. These can be found on our website.

The CoLT is pleased to partner with Jack Astor's and Montana’s Bar and Grill for this tournament. Both are located in Dartmouth Crossing and reservations are recommended.

Time and scorekeepers will be provided by the tournament.

The Home team is required to provide a shot clock operator (U12 and above). Shot clock operators and minor officials will be provided by the tournament for all gold medal games.

All teams must have a first aid kit on the bench. Ice can be obtained at the control desk.

Please note that lacrosse gloves are not permitted at COLT in any division. Athletes must wear approved ringette gloves only. This requirement applies consistently across all age groups. In addition, shoulder pads are mandatory for all athletes from U10 through U19 and must be worn during all games and on-ice activities throughout the tournament. These equipment standards are in place to ensure athlete safety and fair play, and we appreciate your cooperation in upholding them. Athletes who are not wearing approved and required equipment will be asked to correct the issue before being permitted to participate.

We encourage team captains and assistants to greet opposing teams bench staff at the commencement of every game. For teams without these designations, please appoint three athletes for this task.

Under provision 5. c) of the tournament rules, a “cancellation” of transportation will automatically be declared if Halifax Transit suspends public transportation due to weather conditions, in which case the game result will be recorded as a posted score of 3-3. All other circumstances under provision 5 of the tournament rules shall be approved or denied at the discretion of the tournament chair.

Treatment of Referees, Minor Officials and Volunteers: The Harbour City Lakers values the contribution of referees, minor officials and volunteers to our sport. Participants need to be aware there will be a zero-tolerance policy for any abuse, harassment, or other maltreatment of any individual. This will be strictly upheld throughout the tournament. Teams need to convey this expectation to all team members, including athletes and spectators. Rink monitoring will be in effect for the duration of the tournament .

Parking : 120 teams presents challenges for parking. Please bring 1 vehicle per family to the rink if possible. Carpool if you can from your hotel. Please, do not park in the fire lane. We ask large trucks with trailers park in the rear of the building or follow the directional signage to the overflow parking on Saturday.

Crowd Control: Due to attendance numbers and fire codes, it is important we respect the capacity of the arenas.  Please do not linger outside of dressing rooms or create bottlenecks in hallways. Security will be moving through the arena asking groups of individuals to move out of hallways into the rinks or into the lobby/seating areas in the facility.  Games should be viewed from seating areas or inside the rinks. Please do not leave gear bags in hallways. 

Masking is not required in the rink; however, the Harbour City Lakers supports participants and spectators who chose to wear masks to this event. We encourage the wearing of masks if you are feeling unwell or recovering from a respiratory illness.

The Harbour City Lakers are pleased to partner with Ring-Jet and Dom Sports for our skills competition.  We are also grateful to Top Shelf for their ongoing support; they are located at Cole Harbour Place for your skate sharpening needs. They also have a supply of ringette sticks on hand for purchase if required.  If your team has not entered their skills participants, please do so ASAP. the deadline is January 14th at 5pm.

New this year

Prize Allocation Rules for Skills: 

  • 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place athletes, and the 1st place goalie from each division will receive a banner and a Domino’s coupon card.
  • All skaters participating in the skills competition will be entered into a draw to win a brand new Ringjet ringette stick. There is one draw per division.
  • All goalies participating in the skills competition will be entered into a draw to win a custom hoodie,sponsored by PMG Spiritwear. There is one draw per division.

PMG Spirit wear is the exclusive provider of CoLT Apparel and will be located on the second floor of RBC Centre for the beginning 10am on Friday and will work 9-9 Saturday and 9-4 Sunday.

We are please to offer onsite photography.    RBC Centre will feature Eddie Schwarz of Eddie Schwarz Photography https://www.artphotography.fun/ He will be located on the second floor and will take all appointments in person. **Any questions pre- tournament please contact them directly via their websites. RBC  will have a bake sale, face painting,  hospitality suite for athletes and team staff , pins and jibbitz for sale , onsite games (Lego, Fastest Shot, Spin the Wheel,  Photo booth)  , daily 50/50 will be sold in the rinks and an overall tournament 50/50 will be sold in each lobby.  There will also be a raffle for the National Ringette School , Elite Summer Camp , Reach for the Ring and Hemlock Hideaway (located close to the NB border) .      Cash is required for bake sale, ticket purchases and games.

The Harbour City Lakers would like to acknowledge Van Houtte Coffee Service as a tournament sponsor, providing much needed coffee and hot beverages for tournament volunteers and referees.

On Saturday we are pleased to present at RBC Centre two featured games at 12:15pm and 3:15pm between the Atlantic Attack and the U19AA team and the Dalhousie Tigers. Please Join us for a meet and greet! Fun 1 athletes from both provinces will be joining the pregame huddle and Fun 2 teams will have several athletes from each team taking part in the pregame skate. Atlantic Attack Swag will be for sale and donations will be accepted at the door.

Finally, please remember tournaments are run by a dedicated group of individuals who have poured heart and soul into this event. Sometimes things don't always occur according to plan. If you have an issue or concern or a suggestion on how we can make something better please let us know and help us be solution driven. Our goal is for every team to leave the CoLT excited to return in 2027.

We are looking forward to coming together to celebrate not only our sport, but also our athletes, coaches, and families. We hope all of you are able to create some wonderful memories this weekend.
